Game 1 vs Order of St. John

Tough drawing. I met an experienced player, Paolo Vigaṇ, and I attacked. A bad start.

The terrain was not ideal for my army: I had limited room for the pikemen, and could not exploit the wider frontage. The wood limited my archers and I faced all Order knights dismounted. Obviously my opponent waited for me to enter in that trap terrain.

The only option I had was to try to attack a flank, and was quite lucky with the initial pips of the marching corps. The two big PkF phalanxes could not engage frontally the BdS, due the terrain. I was noot optimistic to engage enemy knights in such tactical situation.

Mapuche were quicker to redeploy on the open flank and this created an excellent opportunity to hit the enemy camp and the rear echelon troops, surely a softer target than order brotherhood

At this point me and Paolo discussed about the game development, and realized that as long the BdS stayed in that very strong defensive position, I could achieve a 14-11 destroying the camp and a few more elements but would probably not destroy more than the 10% of the order army. We settled the game on a 14-11 and Paolo decided to come out and fight frontally.

Order BdS advanced supported by Navarrese IAxS and a tough fight started

Navarrese IAxS took a lot of casualties and theis attack was rebuffed, but dealing with BdS was another matter. PkF died in droves

The flanking manouver was successful and the PkF destroyed order camp and engaged RBwO and PsO that could not stand for long

The battle was bloody. My center was destroyed, but Order lost the two corps attacked by flank and rear, for a final result of 19-6.

So the plan of my opponent was sound, and the defensive tactic granted him a draw. This game showed me that I absolutely needed to defend and set up a suitable terrains, and also how vicious could be the fighting vs BdS.
